Sea Scrub Sauna’s Folkestone site is our largest, our most ambitious, and the UK’s biggest beach spa. Two wood-fired saunas, a communal cold plunge tank, a hot tub, proper warm showers, and a full café serving a Japanese lunch menu – all sitting on the Folkestone seafront.
The communal cold plunge is worth mentioning on its own. There’s something that happens when a group of people lower themselves into cold water together – the shared grimace, the collective exhale, the conversation that follows. It’s the oldest part of Nordic bathing culture and it’s at the heart of what makes Folkestone different.
The Japanese menu isn’t an accident either. Japan and Scandinavia share more than most people realise – a deep reverence for ritual bathing, for slowing down, for the restorative power of heat and cold. The café brings those two traditions together in a way that makes a session here feel like a full day rather than a quick dip.
With an event space built into the site, Folkestone hosts everything from Aufguss masterclasses to seasonal celebrations to private wellness days. The changing rooms are the biggest across all our sites, the showers are warm, and the whole thing has been designed for people who want to stay a while.

The Scandinavian Sauna
A purpose-built Aufguss sauna from one of Scandinavia’s most respected makers. The U-shaped interior fits up to 16, the panoramic window above the upper bench brings in the sea light, and the wood-burning stove throws a deep, even heat. This is a sauna designed to perform – session after session, in all weathers, exactly as it should.
Shepherds Hut Sauna
Built by local hands right here in Kent, this is the more characterful of our two Folkestone saunas. Wood-fired, compact, and sitting right on the seafront. The kind of sauna that feels like it was made for this exact spot.

The Cafe
Hot, cold, then fed properly. Folkestone’s café and bar is open throughout the day, from morning coffee to post-plunge cocktails. Grab a cold-pressed juice between rounds, or at the weekend, settle in after your session with a hearty noodle broth or a flatbread fresh from the kitchen.
Tonkotsu or oyster mushroom broth. Flatbreads. Hot food served at weekends. The kind of food that earns its place after contrast therapy.
